She is a seasoned registered Nurse and Midwife. And her consistency has earned her lots of Awards and Recognitions.

Background Check;

May we get to meet you; who is Adesua Oni?

Adesua is a sister to five men, wife of a wonderful man and mother of two. I hail from Edo state by birth and Ekiti state by marriage.

Briefly tell us about your educational background?

I attended a science only higher secondary school and got admitted to study nursing in 2006. I studied to become a nurse at the School of Nursing, University College Hospital, Ibadan and studied to become a midwife in the same institution but at the school of midwifery.

What do you do for a living?

I work as a Nurse, Mentor and Coach nurses online at the Steppedup Nurse Academy (a subsidiary of Steppedup Global Consults). I have more than six programs on offer to nurses and other health professionals on our educational website sna.com.ng.

Also, I founded an NGO called Pregnancy Support Foundation (PSF). It is available on social platforms online and offline. Online we educate women about Pregnancy on Facebook, WhatsApp, telegram and LinkedIn. On WhatsApp, I founded the PSF Academy where we teach women weekly on different topics relating to pregnancy and women’s health. Offline, we organize medical outreaches to pregnant women in rural communities.

What dream did you have while growing up?

To be candid, I had no specific dream. I just wanted to speak and let my voice be heard because I discovered early in life that I have passion in public speaking and mentorship.

Can you briefly tell us about your NGO “Pregnancy Support Foundation (PSF)”; what was your motivation?

God was my motivation and he inspired the idea completely. We have the major aim to give all round support to pregnant women (physical, psychological, spiritual and social support).

Our mission and vison are a social enterprise that seeks to attain world-class relevance in reducing maternal mortality and achieving a happy journey and safe delivery for pregnant women.

Also, to provide all the health education the pregnant woman and her spouse needs to ensure she accesses and gets appropriate and timely healthcare when necessary.

Pregnancy Support Partners is set to provide physical social, psychological, and spiritual support to all women of childbearing age and more specifically to pregnant women.

Pregnancy Support Foundation Int’l seeks to create a community of well-informed women of childbearing age who will in turn, be happy to socialize and build meaningful relationships with each other.

How do you get motivated when delivering someone who’s about to give birth?

There is no joy like the one that has to do with bringing onboard a new life and ensuring that mother and child are alive and well. That alone motivate me.

How would you rate the medical sector in Nigeria?

The medical sector is down. Its suffering and its impoverished.

What was your first win that made you confident that you were doing the right thing?

When I delivered my first baby in 2011, I was sure I was called to be a midwife. It was very thrilling.

As a health worker, what are your major challenges and sad moment?

Remuneration is always a concern and sadly, the government shows no interest in making things get better. Despite a continuous change in the economy, salaries have remained nearly the same.

What’s your opinion about Abortion, do you think abortion should be legalized?

I think people should be enlightened about the pros and cons of abortion and any man who does not take responsibility for a pregnancy, should be jailed.

Denial of pregnancy is the number one reason many women opt for abortion. If you cannot father a child then do not impregnate a woman. I don’t think abortion should be legalized.

What do you like doing in your spare time?

I don’t have spare time… I do a lot of things including writing, delivering webinars and writing books.  Also, i run my master’s degree and have to write research papers every month. So, there is no time for frivolities.

Sometimes people feel that life is not worth living. Can you tell us how you feel about your own life?

I feel very excited about my life.

What are some of your achievements?

  • Founding the Steppedup Global consults (SGC)with Steppedup Nurse academy and steppedup speaker’s academy as subsidiaries.
  •  Becoming an author of seven books within a year and giving two of them out for free to women and men.

  • I have been able to lead a team of nurses to deliver medical outreaches to pregnant women.
  • Delivering online trainings to countless number of people online, 98% of whom I have never met.

What advice would you like to give to pregnant women?

  • To book their pregnancies before the 16th week and attend antenatal clinics when due.
  • To listen to health talks and implement what they are taught.
  • To join educational platforms like PSF academy to get further enlightenment
  • To seek medical help appropriately (standard health facilities and not roadside quack setups) and on time.
  • To get support from their partners and families.
  • To use family planning for child spacing and only deliver the number of children she can singlehandedly take care of in case of unforeseen circumstances.

Where do you hope to be in the next four years?
