‘Very happy to be here’ – Cristiano Ronaldo seemingly confirms he won’t quit Man United

June 3, 2022

Manchester United star, Cristiano Ronaldo has seemingly confirmed he won’t quit the club, insisting he is happy to be at Old Trafford as he prepares for life under new boss Erik ten Hag.

The Portugal international made a sensational return to the Premier League club last summer but endured a disappointing season as the Reds were only able to finish sixth on the league table.

The 37-year-old who has one year remaining on his deal at United is optimistic about the club’s future under Ten Hag.

In an interview with the club, Ronaldo said: ‘I was happy of course to be back at a club that really raised my career. So it was unbelievable.

‘The feeling when I (came) back again, it was nice to feel the supporters. The happiness of them as great.

‘I was – and still am – very happy to be here.’

Ronaldo finished United’s top scorer in the Premier League after netting 18 times as the Red Devils missed out on Champions League football but he claimed he was still motivated for the new campaign.

The forward also he believes United will return to ‘where they belong’.

‘I believe that Manchester will be where they belong,’ he said. ‘As I say before, sometimes it takes time but I still believe.

‘The records are coming in a natural way. I don’t follow the records but the records follow me. So it’s good.

‘It’s still my motivation to carry on. Just working hard. I still love the passion for the game. And of course, Manchester and my team-mates helped me all the way so I have to appreciate all the people who help Cristiano.’

He wished the former Ajax boss well ahead of his tenure at Old Trafford but warned fans they must give Ten Hag time to implement changes.

Ronaldo said: ‘I know he [Ten Hag] did a fantastic job for Ajax and that he’s an experienced coach. But we need to give him time and things need to change – the way he wants.

‘I hope we have success of course. Because if you have success, all of Manchester are going to have success as well.

‘So I wish him the best. We are happy and excited – not only the players but the supporters as well.

‘I wish him the best and let’s hope that next year we’re going to win trophies.’

Ronaldo also said he still intends to help United’s next generation as he believes they are the future of the club.

‘The new generation will be the future of the club. I’m in favour of giving opportunities to the young generation because they will be the future.

‘But you have to help them as well to put it in the right spot. Because the pressure is a lot to play in the Premier League, which I believe is the most difficult league in the world by far.
