Understanding the importance of Social Connectedness

Suicide is a major public health concern and one of the ways to prevent it is through Social Connectedness.

Connectedness is determined to be an important protective factor to suicide prevention.

It gives an individual immune boost and reduces isolation in which individuals or group is socially close, interrelated or share resources with other individuals or groups. Such as (Family, peers, mentors and lots).

Connectedness can take several forms, for example, through phone calls, virtual meet-ups, team building activities, texts or sending and posting messages via social media platforms, and sharing words of support and listening without judgement.

It’s also important to note that not all social connections are healthy but it has the higher rate of Suicide prevention.
