Xavi in tears as he leaves Al Sadd for Barcelona

November 6, 2021

Xavi Hernandez could not hold back tears, as he left his post as Al Sadd head coach to take over at Barcelona.

The former Spain midfielder was seen shaking hands and hugging players and officials of the Qatari as he said his goodbyes.

During his short time in charge of Al Sadd, Xavi won seven trophies, including one league title.

They are unbeaten in 36 games in the Qatar Stars League, dating back to last season.

However, Barca have now paid a €5million release clause and the 41-year-old would return to Camp Nou after six years in Qatar.

Xavi will officially take over after the November international break. Interim coach Sergi Barjuan will remain in charge for Saturday’s match at Celta Vigo, with Xavi’s first game set to be the Catalan derby against Espanyol at Camp Nou on Nov. 20.
