Background check:

May we get to meet you; who is Yetunde Oyeleye?

Yetunde is a Christian, and her faith is very important to her. She is an ambassador of Christ and shines her light wherever she goes. She is a simple and down-to-earth person who finds beauty in the unseen, strange and unexplainable. She loves empowering others by helping them witness and birth their vision. She is a wife and a mother.

Can you please tell us about your background?

I was born in Lagos, Nigeria and left the shores of Nigeria when I was four years old. My dad was a diplomat, so we lived in various countries. I grew up in Angola, Sudan, Brazil and Germany and returned to Nigeria when I was in JSS2. I came from a close-knit family.

Briefly tell us about your educational background.

Like I said earlier, my early education was done outside Nigeria, but I returned in JSS2. I completed my education at Federal Government Girls’ College, Bauchi. I attempted JAMB several times but didn’t get admission into any of the universities. I then sat for the Polytechnic examination and gained admission to study Marketing at Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro. Whilst in the UK, I had to convert my HND to a degree by doing a one-year top-up, which earned me a BA (Hons) in Business and Management. I went further to get an MA in Management (Marketing pathway) and an MBA in International Business.

What do you do for a living?

I’m a content writer and copywriter.

When did you know you wanted this job?

I’ve loved writing since I was a little girl but never thought of writing as a career. However, a few years ago, I started to think seriously about it, but I didn’t know where or how to begin, so I published a children’s book on Amazon. After that, I started exploring areas where my writing could be used to bring in income, and I came across content writing and copywriting.

What career mistake has given you the biggest lesson?

I don’t believe I’ve ever had a career mistake.

What dream did you have while growing up?

Growing up as a young girl, I had quite a number of dreams. I wanted to be an actress and a doctor. But I think the most consistent one is setting up a charity for women and children.

What was the first win that made you confident that you were doing the right thing?

For me, it wasn’t my first gig; it was the fact that people appreciated the content I was putting out there. That meant the world to me.

What do you like doing in your spare time?

In my spare time, I like spending time with my family, reading, watching movies, and travelling.

If you could know the absolute and total truth to one question, what question would you ask?

I would ask God if dinosaurs existed.

Can you please tell us about the people you admire?

I admire hardworking people who are not looking for a shortcut to success. I admire people who go out of their way to help others, those who leave the ladder for others to climb after they have climbed up. I admire people who know what they want and go for it.

Are you in a relationship; if yes, what advice would you give young couples?

Yes, I’m married. I would advise young couples to work on their marriages. There needs to be compromise from both parties involved. These days, the divorce rate is high. Conflicts will arise in marriage, but they must be ready to work them out. They must remember that they are a team and are on the same side.

Are you ever depressed, and why?

No, I always try to see the good in situations and believe all things work together for my good.

If you were to become the President of Nigeria, what would you do for the youth to deter them from immoralities?

If I became the President of Nigeria, I would encourage youth-led entrepreneurship by providing an enabling environment for them to thrive. I would ensure that the youth have socioeconomic empowerment and political representation and that quality and affordable education is available to all.

What are some of your achievements?

Being part of the team that organized the first-ever Corporate Gifts Exhibition in Lagos, Nigeria, and writing and self-publishing my first children’s book on Amazon.

Where do you hope to be in the next four years?

I would want to own my own publishing house and consult for or sit on the board of a newspaper.
