#Faceoftheweek – Sound Goddess Esiyon

April 5, 2022

In an exclusive interview with Sound Goddess Esiyon, granted Bayo Speaks as a face of the week. She revealed her background, career, way of life and achievements.

Background Check:

May we get to meet you; who really is Sound Goddess Esiyon?

She is a girl who has grown into a woman. She is a Goddess in her own standing. She is creative, innovative, dynamic, determined, divine, fluid, water, quirky, goofy, unique, confident, charming, expressive, relentless, stern, hilarious, cute, beautiful, wise, kind, compassionate, love and a visionary.

Can you please tell us about your background?

I lived half of my life in Nigeria and the other half in the United States, because my mum is Nigerian and my Dad American. I am the only child to my mum. I was born in Lagos Nigeria and later moved to Gombe around age 8 to live with my grandparents. And at age 11, I moved to America to be with my Dad.

Growing up was complicated and confusing for me as a child because every new place I moved to was a whole new world that i had to adjust to.

Briefly tell us about your educational background?

I attended my pre-school and primary school in Lagos, Nigeria. I did half of my secondary school in Gombe before moving to the States where I continued and finished high school. I started attending college and dropped out during my first year after realizing music was what I wanted to do.

What do you do for a living?

I prefer to think that there isn’t any specific thing that i do for a living. I am a woman of my talents and I like to explore in different ways of creating financial abundance. I will say that I am a Musician and I sing and write my own songs as it is my greatest passion.

When did you know you wanted this job?

When i turned 20, I realized music was what I watnted to do professionally

How do you prepare before performing on stage?

I meditate and take deep breaths while visualizing exactly how i want my performance to be.

What career mistake has given you the biggest lesson?

Not being prepared has taught me a huge lesson that opportunity meets preparation. So i do what needs to be done to be prepared, even when I don’t want to do it.

What dream did you have while growing up?

While growing up I actually wanted to be a veterinarian. I watched a lot of animal planet shows while growing up and i loved animals. As you know things happen for a reason and things didn’t go as planned. Instead here i am now, following my heart making music that i love.

Any Collaboration and who is your favorite Artist?

On my most recent project “Spirituality” the E.P, I collaborated with an amazing and talented Artist B.O.C Madaki and I’m looking forward to collaborating with more amazing Artists. Some incredible Artists I would love to work with are; Rema, Greentea Peng, Moonchild Sanelly etc.

What was your first win that made you confident that you were doing the right thing?

I would say i had a great feeling of confidence when i released my E.P, because it felt like i had finally proven myself to the world that i was capable of doing music and being passionate about it.

I also felt a great sense of fulfillment having such a renowned Artist like B.O.C Madaki on my first project!!!! I remember vibing to his music in my teenage years, his music carried a message and I remember wanting that for myself.

Who is your mentor and why?

I don’t really have a mentor that i work with directly but there are a few people that i like to observe and learn from like ; chimanda Ngozi Adichie, Aśa, lupita Nyong’o, viola davis, beyonce, greentea peng, Ari lennox, somi, Fela kuti , kanye west, M.I Abaga & Rema.

Can you briefly tell us about your albums?

I’m yet to put out an album, but i do have plans for that in the future. My E.P “Spirituality” is the body of work I have put out so far.

What  do you like doing in your spare time?

I love creating, I enjoy painting, being in nature, I enjoy being in silence and sitting with myself sometimes, i enjoy cooking/ eating and I love making music obviously… lol.

If you could know the absolute and total truth to one question, what question would you ask?

How did it all begin? The existence of humanity and the multi-dimensions /parallel universes.

Can you please tell us about the people you admire?

I admire a lot of people, there are so many beautiful people in this universe. Among them is kanye west, what I admire most about him is his confidence. The belief in oneself and seeing him believe in himself so much has really inspired me to do the same and even more!

However, i don’t agree with all his opinions but he has a space in my heart for being able to hold such higher frequencies.

Are you in a relationship; if yes what advice would you give to young couple out there?

I am not in a relationship at the moment, but I would like to give an advice; If you love someone, love with the whole of your heart without any resistance.

How do you manage your relationship and profession?

Easy, I don’t have a romantic relationship so i don’t need to manage …. haha

Are you ever depressed and why?

Oh yes, i do get depressed sometimes and I  can’t really say why it happens. Although i can say that when it happens I acknowledge it and take time for myself. Which could look like not returning call/messages, taking time to process things, sleeping as much as i need, laying under the sun, going into nature, meditating e.t.c.  I always say to myself “You cannot pour from an empty cup”.

Self-love is the best love sometimes society will try to guilt trip us into thinking we’re being selfish but if you don’t take care of you, who will? I personally believe that if every individual had a deep sense of love for themselves it would reflect outwardly and the world would be a much better place.

What are some of your achievements?

I am proud to say that making the decision to follow my passion in music is one of the greatest achievements I have!

Where do you hope to be in the next for?

In the nearest future i see myself collaborating with a lot of Artists, performing at festivals, concerts, events and making more great music!
